Wednesday April 16th: Am I betraying the Lord?

“Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?”

Matthew 26:14-25

In this Lenten Season, we need to look deep within ourselves, and keep a keen eye on what we think, what we do and what we fail to do so we can understand where we are in our relationship with Jesus.

Both Peter and Judas betrayed Jesus but Peter returned to Jesus sorrowful. Judas, full of pride, self-destructed without accepting Jesus’ great love. Why?

Why am I in relationship with Jesus, why am I reading this reflection, why am I involved in Church? Is it to grow in a more intimate relationship with Jesus and to become more Christ-like? Or is it to become popular, seek power or gain some financial growth? Let us choose the attitude of Peter, not Judas who knew he was betraying Jesus, yet told himself a lie “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?”

Lord Jesus, help us face truth and not lie to ourselves. May all that we do and seek each day be out of love for you. Lord Jesus, open our hearts and minds to truth and love. Amen
