We have to spend time with Him, reading the Bible…
John 8:31-42
A disciple is one who follows. We are called Christians because we follow Jesus Christ. To truly be a disciple of Jesus, we have to know what He stands for, what He says, we have to listen to His words, stories about Him, stories He tells. We have to know His life and His way and His teaching.
How do we do that? We have to spend time with Him, reading the Bible and allowing what He says to ‘penetrate into’ us. We have to make His Word our home. Jesus says if we do this we ‘will learn the truth and the truth will make [us] free’. This truth is what Jesus learnt from God to bring us to loving Jesus more and more.
The freedom we know today is to do as we please but that is really being a slave to our own passions and desires. Jesus offers us true freedom – from what people think and from the power of sin.
Jesus, let your Word make me truly free!
