“God sent forth His Son…born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law”
John 7:40-52
Failure to recognize Jesus was not due to ‘facts’ that seem shrouded in mystery, but spiritual pride.
Oftentimes I would contemplate living in the times of Jesus and a myriad of emotions would flood my mind. I wondered if I would have accepted Him as the Messiah as I wrestled with the seeming ‘facts’ about His birth and origin.
Spiritual pride blinded the scribes and Pharisees to the Way, Truth and Life who is Jesus Christ. To admit Jesus was the Christ meant giving up the lofty places of veneration as keepers of the law, which gave them leverage and wealth-a form of self-idolatry, bringing a curse on themselves.
But…“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us”
Jesus, thank you for Your Holy Cross which has redeemed the world and leads the way home. Amen.
