“I seek not to please myself”
John 5: 17-30
So very often we are faced with situations, and after struggling for some time realize we are not getting anywhere and then we decide to pray. Then almost miraculously we get the answer. Yet we often try to find solutions on our own. It is interesting that in His defense, Jesus said to those who were challenging Him, “My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working”. He went on to say, “The Son can do nothing by himself.” This is confirmation that God is always available to help, if only we trust.
Dear friend, while today’s passage focused on Jesus seeking to convince His critics who He was, it is also an opportunity for us to hear His Word and to believe and thereby inherit eternal life by the way we live. We must not be afraid to proclaim what we believe and give witness to the truth. We are in the world but not of the world. Like Jesus, always remember “I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me” Amen.
