“Your son shall live!”
John 4:43-54
These words might have sounded like music to the ear of the royal official, in today’s Gospel passage, who pleaded with Jesus on behalf of his son who was on the brink of death.
“Your son shall live!” must have resonated in St Monica’s spirit even as she ‘kept vigil’ for some 17 years for her son, Augustine. And when the breakthrough came, all of heaven was rejoicing then, and we continue today to give glory to God for the illustrious St Augustine and his contribution to our faith.
Today we salute parents who stand in the gap for their children who are on the edge. We recognize the faith of those who hang in there despite desolation, discouragement and what seems like ‘death itself’ in the situations they face.
We pray with and for those who have lost hope and have given up. We have the firm conviction that hope does not disappoint. As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year let us band together for the wellbeing of our sons and daughters. They shall live!
