Stay the course… body and soul

The body and soul are intimately connected. We at BOMA-TT teach the Billings Ovulation Method® of Natural Fertility Awareness, which is all about the body, yet we know that the soul is affected by what we do with our bodies.

Using the Billings Method has numerous beneficial effects for women and families such as self-awareness, better decision-making, joint responsibility for family planning, harmless regulation of fertility, improved health-monitoring and much more.

Utilising Natural Fertility Awareness is good for the soul, a morally good choice, as it does no harm to the reproductive system which is a gift from God to women. To persevere in charting the menstrual cycle, however, whilst in the busyness of today’s society requires great virtue involving discipline and even sacrifice.

On March 8 we celebrated International Women’s Day, and the Catholic Church has observed that Mary, the Virgin-Mother of God, has shown us great example in virtue.

In her booklet, The Special Gift of Women for God, the Family and the World, Dr Maria Fedoryka noted that: “The church sees in Mary the highest expression of the ‘feminine genius,’ and she finds in her a source of constant inspiration” (38). “Nothing in creation is more beautiful than a person shining with virtue” (3).

All women, Dr Fedoryka noted, can contribute to God’s glory by freely utilising the gifts He has given for the sake of the good. Paradoxical living, where we forget ourselves and live for others leads to fulfilment in life. This, of course, should not be taken to extreme levels where we do not care for ourselves. When a woman makes herself a gift to another, she becomes what she was truly created for.

Mary continues to give herself as a gift to us through apparitions in varying parts of the world. Many people are not aware of the very public ‘Miracle of the Sun’ in 1917. The Catholic News Agency noted that approximately 70,000 people witnessed “the day the sun danced” after Mary, Our Lady of Fátima, appeared to three children in Portugal and promised them a public sign so that people would believe in her apparitions and the message she gave.

The messages of Our Lady were to prove that God was not dead and that “even if someone has separated from God, God is present in human history and doesn’t abandon humanity” said Dr Duarte, theologian.

One of the visionaries, Servant of God Sister Maria Lucia, shared: “The final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Do not be afraid, because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and the family will always be fought and opposed in every way, because this is the decisive issue. However, Our Lady has already crushed his head.”

Indeed, the times we are in are frightening, family life is difficult, charting the menstrual cycle using the Billings Ovulation Method® can be tiring and even vexing at times. However staying the course in living virtuously will be greatly, heavenly rewarded.

Let us open our hearts to conversion and pray. God is Love and we were made by Him to love and be loved! Take care of both your body and your soul. This Method is love.
