– Closes year with series of activities
What started as two droplets grew and touched the lives of many in Trinidad and Tobago.
Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon made this observation as he celebrated Mass for the golden jubilee of the Living Water Community (LWC), on Sunday, March 16 at the MovieTowne Banquet and Conference Centre. A year of celebration and activities culminated with the Mass.
Acknowledging that 50 years is a milestone, Archbishop Gordon mentioned the range of ministries the Community has been involved in. Many lives were touched, “especially the poor, especially those on the fringe and margins of society, the migrants, those living on the streets, the drug addict, all of the many abandoned people the Community has touched.”
Archbishop Gordon said it has been a fruitful 50 years and people coming to the Community have experienced Matthew 25 in action. He commended the work of the Community’s Trinity TV which has reached beyond the Catholic community and was a lifeline of hope during the Covid-19 pandemic locally and for the region.
“That the Water did not stop flowing, it has flowed and flowed and flowed and it has gone further and further afield and it has nourished many, many people with the life-giving water they have experienced that has come from this call, this charism that God Himself had chosen to start in this time, in this place, for God’s own good purpose,” Archbishop Gordon said.
The soul of the LWC, he said, can be understood in the value of prayer. Something happened when, as a contemplative nun of Rosary Convent, Sr Assumpta (Rose Jackman) and Rhonda Maingot each prayed and received an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Archbishop Gordon said, “What happened was a transformation in each of them; what happened was a transformation in both of them and what happened was the birthing of a Community, the Living Water Community.” He continued, “When we pray, we become an instrument in God’s hands allowing God to do the things God wants to do for God’s people. That’s the testimony of the Community.”
Delivering a greeting, co-foundress of the LWC, Maingot, gave all credit to God and the grace He gave to her, Rose Jackman and other members of the Community to say ‘yes’.
She said, “There are no words to thank this mighty God but only a heart of love and share that love with one another.” The Mass was followed by joyful songs, and testimonials. Forty people who were part of the Community over the past 50 years were presented with blessing scrolls.
