Monday March 24th: Not one was cleansed

“But passing through the midst of them he went away.”

Luke 4:24-30

Beloved, God is all knowing, “omniscient”. He is a rewarder of the just and His grace extends to all, not just to a select few as we see in this passage.

Jesus made an example of Elijah and Elisha, who were sent to Gentiles rather than Israelites, to illustrate that prophets are not always accepted in their hometowns.
Rejection unveiled, both of Jesus and of God’s message by those who should have been most receptive, people in his hometown! Evidently, we see the importance of humility and openness to God’s word despite who we are.
Jesus passed through crowds unscathed signifying both His authority and the protection of God over His mission. The people of Nazareth were enraged, their idea of privilege and entitlement were shattered.
May we do the hard work this Lent on our mind, body and soul, remembering to wash the thoughts with His word, the only truth against that evil one. Don’t miss out on being healed!
