Friday March 21st: A wake-up call for all

“The Kingdom of God will be taken away and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”

Matthew 21: 33–43, 45-46

In today’s gospel, Jesus shares the parable of the unjust tenants, challenging us to reflect on our stewardship of God’s gifts. The landowner spares no effort in preparing the vineyard, symbolizing God’s generosity in blessing us with life, faith, talents, and the Sacraments. Lent invites us to examine if we are bearing the fruits God expects.

The tenants’ refusal to give the landowner his due, reflects humanity’s rejection of God’s prophets and His Son, Jesus. This rejection mirrors our own resistance to God’s will. Jesus warns that those who fail to bear fruit will lose their place in the Kingdom: “The Kingdom of God will be taken away and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” Lent is a wake-up call to turn from sin and renew our faith.

Quoting Psalm 118, Jesus identifies Himself as the cornerstone, the foundation of God’s Kingdom. This Lent, let us re-center our lives on Christ, bearing fruit through faith and preparing to celebrate the joy of Easter.
