“…be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as well as the good.”
Matthew 5:43-48
In this passage Jesus warns his disciples that they must be guided by his teachings and not by what society or the culture of the time says. We too, in our time, must be aware of this as we make choices and decisions everyday.
It is said that the people of Trinidad and Tobago are very hospitable people. At the base of our culture is hospitality. We even boast that God is a ‘Trini’. We as citizens of this beautiful twin island state are challenged to live out that which we boast. We experience daily that ‘the sun rises on bad as well as good’ and that ‘his rain falls on all alike’.
When we encounter the beggar or the migrant, anyone who requires our assistance, let us choose to do the God thing, remembering that we are called to “Be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect.’ God does not link his gifts to how people feel about Him. So too, we must do the same to one another.
