“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:7-15
When we pray these words, we are not asking God to change the world—we are offering ourselves to be His instruments of change to bring about His kingdom here on earth.
God’s kingdom is not a place far away, nor is it something we must wait for after death. It is present wherever love, justice, and mercy reign. It is in our homes when we choose kindness over anger, in our workplaces when we act with integrity, and in our communities when we care for the poor, lonely, and forgotten.
His will is that we love Him with all our heart and our neighbour as ourselves, that we forgive as we have been forgiven, that we seek peace instead of revenge, that we serve instead of seeking to be served.
We are asking God’s reign to take hold in our hearts, families, and world. We must be ready to cooperate with His grace, to be His hands and feet on earth.
May we live, today, such that God’s kingdom is visible in us. May His will be done through our lives, just as it is in heaven.
