Monday March 10th: What is the quality of your love?

“…in so far as you did it to the least of these who are my brethren, you did it to me.”

Matthew 25:31-46

Today’s Gospel passage describes, in essence, the scene at the Last Judgement. The specifics of the statements made and the questions asked, cause us to consider seriously, not just whether or not we showed love to others, but exactly HOW we showed that love. What did we do or not do?
Do we just glance quickly at the homeless, feel sorry for the sick, think sadly about the imprisoned and then continue on our way? Or, do we take time to give food and drink to the hungry and thirsty; give clothes to the naked; visit the sick and imprisoned and offer to them a message of hope?
We cannot take our money, our social status, or our worldly power into the next world, but we do take the quality of our love. Let us examine our consciences daily, so that when we ask Him, we can hear Our Lord telling us “…in so far as you did it to the least of my brethren, you did it to me.”
