Luke 9:22-25
Jesus presents us with a paradox. He says that to save our life we have to lose it. To find out what it means we need to look at our life and those around us.
If we want to achieve anything in life we have to make sacrifices. If we want to be very successful in our studies, we have to give up a lot of the time we normally spend with friends and otherwise enjoying ourselves. We think we are losing our lives while others are having a good time. In the end, however, we achieve what we set out for and we now have a successful life.
When we follow Jesus, by loving God and our neighbour as ourselves, we have to make many sacrifices but, in this way, we gain our heavenly reward and save our lives.
Lord, give us the strength to make the necessary sacrifices to save our lives.
