Monday March 3rd: What are my riches?

Thank God Jesus loves me.

Mark 10:17–27

Each time I read a Gospel passage I find something new. I can’t remember, ever reading, that before Jesus told the young man to go and sell everything, the text says: “Jesus loved him…”
I try to obey the commandments, but I understand the rich young man. There are things that I find very difficult to give up during Lent. I love the late night talk shows on television. I find it truly difficult to give them up for forty days in order to concentrate on my relationship with God.
I will do almost anything God asks of me, and I beg Him not to ask me to give up my television shows. I promise extra time before the Blessed Sacrament; I promise to give more at collection. In fact, anything at all except my talk shows.
Thank God Jesus loves me. I pray for strength to give up at least one late night talk show this Lent.
