Saturday March 1st: Little children and Jesus

“Let the little children come to me.”

Mark 10:13-16

Today’s reflection focuses on Jesus and little children, He makes the point that for anyone to enter the Kingdom of God they must have the disposition of children. This mandate is certainly not easy for adults, but one that requires not only humility, but a recognition of the need for honesty, among other virtues.
Jesus had to scold the disciples as they were not happy that the people were bringing the children for blessings, and they were rebuking them. He, however, used the occasion, as He always did to teach. It is said that in some cultures, the birth of a child is seen as a blessing and future wealth. Jesus was not telling them about material things, but the requirement for eternal life, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these”.
As we reflect on the reading let us ponder to what extent we are living as required to inherit the Kingdom. Let us go to Jesus seeking to be in His arms and thus receive His blessings.
