“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how will you make it salty again?”
Mark 9:41-50
Longtime I had so much salt they used to say, “She is ah saltfish!” You see, I did not grow up Catholic but went to a Catholic school and fell in love with the religion. I was confirmed at 19, and wanted to be part of everything. I loved long Masses and the music and felt that every homily was preached specifically for me.
But life happens. One failure, one hurt, one pain, one disappointment after the other and I took my eyes off Jesus. I started making excuses for my sins and trusting the ways of the world. I became like a tasteless aloo pie! The Gospel asks what can you do when the saltiness is gone?
As a young person excited about my faith, I did everything for God and he did marvelous wonders for me but when I lost my saltiness the world appeared a bitter and jaded place. If your saltiness is gone, cast your eyes on Jesus again, and soon you will find a renewed flavour that you will be happy to share, like a true disciple, and so reflect the teachings of Christ.
