“I will build my Church”…
Matthew 16:13-19
The Lord gives extraordinary tasks to ordinary people sometimes. Peter, one can say, was just an ordinary fallible fisherman, yet he was called and chosen by Jesus to become the rock upon which our church was instituted and built, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, the seat of the authority of Saint Peter. Let it be a reminder to us that Jesus will never leave us. He promises, “I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
Let us pray to have discerning hearts like Saint Peter so that we may remain united with Jesus and thus, with the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. For flesh and blood has not revealed these things to us but Our Father in Heaven.
