He lived secure in knowing His purpose and destiny.
Mark 8:27-33
There is a beautiful Way of the Cross through Mary’s eyes where the refrain after the meditation on each station is ‘I knew this had to be, so I walked/cried, silently.’
Jesus also knew what had to be. Today He asks his disciples “Who do people, who do you, say I am? Yet, He knew himself to be the Christ, the Son of Man destined to suffer grievously. He accepted what He had to endure, not allowing that knowledge to cripple him. He lived and worked and prayed and played, secure in knowing his purpose and destiny. And so He could speak openly about his future. He was at peace.
Peter is all of us when we rage against things over which we have no control; when we fail to discern that even in suffering, something meaningful still lies ahead for us, and for those we love.
Let us pray this Jubilee year for the wisdom to think as God thinks, and to have hope and a sense of purpose.
