Pondering surrender as a celebration–what an unconventional way of choosing to view such a big deal. After all, who wants to celebrate the act of giving up our will for the love of God’s will and His works?
Today is a great time to consider the value that celebrating surrender might bring to us. Maybe we can start by delving into our imagination and going to a place of us as children.
As children, there is a sense of wonder when we are taken to enchanting places like toy stores and theme parks. In these childlike moments, we are usually easily distracted by the workings of the things we are surrounded by.
As children of God, we marvel at His works, and this is definitely the way we can begin to consider the value of celebrating surrender.
When we conjure thoughts of surrender, we scarcely associate it with any form of celebration and yet this is an opportunity to let our thoughts wander to the ways we can begin to celebrate the act of surrendering.
Psalm 30:5 is a great way of considering what might be that act to transform surrender into a celebration–knowing that we can look forward to a joyful outcome.
In another local context, as we give a moment to think of the many steelpan players practising and sacrificing their days and nights, making joyful sounds out of a discarded drum that has become a wondrous receptacle of sound in the 21st century, think about the joy they feel from each victory they attain. Can we play the steelpan? Can we make music? Can we sing? Can we rejoice? And do we see these acts as a way to surrender and celebrate?
Starting today, as we embrace surrender and the joy it brings us, think of the ways we feel when we fix our eyes on the prize. The rewards of everlasting joy!
