Saturday February 15th: A hope that does not disappoint

“Where could anyone get these people enough bread to eat in a deserted place?”

Mark 8:1-10

Looking at the world scene, the political landscape, the social issues plaguing our society and the moral and spiritual decadence one might be tempted to think that we are indeed in a deserted place. Our reaction might be akin to that of the disciples. “What on earth can we do in a situation like this?”
In today’s Gospel Jesus asked the disciples to bring what they had, as inadequate as they thought it was. He blessed it and it proved sufficient to meet the needs of all.
What can we bring today, as church, that will contribute to the alleviation of the many problems we face? Our individual gifts and talents, our skillsets and expertise and a genuine desire to serve the common good is a great start. Additionally, in this Jubilee Yesr, we are invited as Pilgrims of Hope to journey together, in a bid to bring about reconciliation and restoration and engender hope. A hope that does not disappoint!
Lord, let me not be overwhelmed by the big picture but do what little I can. Amen.
