Student dies during PE class

BAHAMAS

Archbishop Patrick Pinder of Nassau, the Chairman of the Catholic Board of Education, along with the broader Catholic school system, extended condolences to the parents, relatives, friends, and all who knew Ethan Clarke following his passing after collapsing during a physical education class at Aquinas College, Thursday, January 9.

Local news source The Tribune referred to a statement released by the Education Board, that trained personnel provided immediate assistance and an ambulance was called. Clarke, a ninth-grade student of the Catholic institution, was transported to Doctors Hospital, where he later died.

According to Tribune, the release said that a team of counsellors and clergy will be on hand to provide support to students, teachers and parents as “they process this loss.”

The school noted that his death was a tragic loss for the Aquinas College community.

Clarke, who joined Aquinas College in September 2024, was described as kind and mannerly, and a member of the school’s band.
