Archbishop Emeritus Robert Rivas OP is recuperating after being hospitalised Thursday, January 16 at West Shore Medical Private Hospital, Cocorite.
He underwent tests and after a diagnosis of sepsis and a urinary tract infection, was placed on a course of antibiotics. He was discharged from the facility last Saturday and convalesced at the home of his sister where he was receiving “a lot of TLC [Tender Loving Care]” from family. The Archbishop told The Catholic News that he is following doctor’s orders and thanked God for giving him new insights into his life.
Archbishop Rivas, 78 years, thanked his Brothers at the House of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Diego Martin, for their rapid response in attending to his health needs.
He was thankful also to family, friends, and staff of West Shore. “There have been so many groups praying for me in the Church, I am sure their prayers have reached the throne of grace. I feel physically stronger and spiritually refreshed. Every sickness draws me closer to Jesus who suffered for me,” he said. The retired bishop added he is learning to surrender and place his life in the “potter’s hands”. —LPG
