Thursday January 16th: Jesus Wants to Save Us

Jesus meets us in whatever state of illness we come to him for help.

Mark 1: 40-45

Like the leper in today’s gospel reading, we come to Jesus with our diseases, with our uncleanness and our feelings of not being included. We approach Jesus with humility and with hope. We ask him to cure us. Jesus does not hesitate, at once he reaches out and says, “Of course I want to”. Jesus meets us in whatever state of illness we come to him for help. With love and compassion he touches us.

Remember the times in your life when you felt weak, broken, and unlovable. You sought the help of a friend, a neighbour, a counsellor, or a priest. Just like the leper you felt that you were receiving the care and love from someone who understood what you were experiencing.

When we are cured, we give thanks for God’s goodness. We feel free to forgive ourselves and others. Our relationships and our prayer life improve. We become involved in charitable work. We share our experiences and encourage others in their journey towards healing.
