Wednesday January 15th: Exploring New Horizons

“Let us go elsewhere…because that is why I came.”

Mark 1:29-39

Jesus knew when it was time to pick up himself and move on. According to St. Mark, while in Capernaum he had driven out an evil spirit from a man in the synagogue on the Sabbath and also cured Simon Peter’s mother-in-law as well as many others from sicknesses and evil spirits. Everyone was seeking this miracle-worker. However, having spent some time in prayer, away from the crowds, he knew it was time to explore other horizons.

We too, at the start of a new year, are called to first go off to a lonely place where we can evaluate our deep relationships, our careers, our very lives and get our priorities right in prayer and silence. Only then, can we embark on new and challenging ways of being in this world and say with Jesus: “Let us go elsewhere to the neighbouring towns so that I can preach there also, because that is why I came”.
