“He said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them.”
Mark 6:34-44
There are so many nuggets and takeaways from the well-known passage that I chose to draw your attention today to the occurrence just before the miracle: the act of building on your spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical bank via Rest, Reflection, and Communion.
In today’s story, Jesus and His disciples had just returned from escaping the hustle and bustle. This act shows the importance of reflection and meditation. As you clicked and engaged with Catholic TT Daily Reflections today, you accepted Jesus’ invitation to retreat to a quiet place and rest for a while.
Do not be afraid of solitude; instead, consider this perspective: in Pascal’s words, “The sole cause of man’s unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.”
While Jesus welcomed the crowds and offered comfort, he often withdrew alone to renew his strength by communing with his heavenly Father.
Lord, grant us the wisdom to withdraw, rest, reflect and commune with the Blessed Trinity. Amen.
