Thursday January 2nd: Know yourself

“I am not the Messiah”

John 1:19-28

This gospel passage about John the Baptist is a perfect example that we should not take credit for ourselves but give God the Glory.
The fact that the authorities sent men to enquire from him who he was, demonstrated that John the Baptist was having an impact. In addition, many persons were coming for baptism. However, John made it known that his baptism was of water, but the one who came after him, “the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie” was the Messiah.
So often in our work people will seek to lift us up and give praise for our achievements. But do we give the praise to God? Have we come to the realization, that all we have and all we do belongs to God?
We can learn from John the Baptist, that all we do, the gifts we have and the message we carry to others must never be about us but rather it should make Jesus known by bringing others to encounter and have a personal relationship with Him.
