Reflecting on a year of growth and community

By Kathryn Tardieu, General Manager, Catholic Media Services Ltd

As 2024 draws to a close, we at The Catholic News look back on an extraordinary year filled with growth, community-building, and a renewed sense of purpose. This year, we felt the weight of the pandemic lift and embraced new directions where God is calling us to serve.

With a focus on expanding the reach of our Catholic mission, both in print and online, we ventured into new spaces to touch more lives and impact more hearts.

The year began with the launch of an exciting new initiative: the Steps for Hope 5K. This event brought together our Catholic community and the local running community—a unique and inspiring combination!

With over 600 participants, including 100 children, the event was a joyful success. Seamlessly organised, it fostered fellowship and left everyone looking forward to next year’s event. For The Catholic News, this was a first-of-its-kind endeavour, aligning with the synodal call for inclusivity and community engagement.

Building on this success, Steps for Hope evolved into a brand-new Activity Club, welcoming those who wanted to continue walking, running, and volunteering together as a community. Throughout the year, club members participated in various 5K events, proudly representing Steps for Hope.

The highlight was the Steps for Hope pilgrimage to Lopinot, which brought together 60 pilgrims in a transformative experience of faith, spirituality, and unity as one Catholic family.

As we look toward 2025, our mission is clear. We are committed to extending the boundaries of communication, growing our presence in the digital space, and creating more opportunities for in-person connections. Events and digital outreach will remain at the forefront of our efforts, ensuring that we continue to meet people where they are and foster a sense of belonging within God’s kingdom.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support and encourage-ment throughout this year of growth. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to evolve, to serve new generations, and to build on the strong legacy of The Catholic News in this Archdiocese.

Together, let us answer God’s call to spread the gospel, build community, and grow in faith. May we carry this momentum into 2025 with joy, hope, and a shared commitment to being instruments of God’s love.

Happy New Year!
