But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished”. V12
Matthew 17:10-13
In today’s world, we seem to be very focused on giving in to our desires and wants, doing what we want in our own way and in our own time. Are we too busy, rushing to ‘Black Friday’ sales, or distracted by parang, pork, and presents or bent on spending money to make our home a Christmas showpiece; to truly recognize Jesus as the reason for the Christmas Season?
How many of us are like the teachers of law mentioned in today’s Gospel passage, in that we don’t recognise the opportunity for hope, love, joy, and peace during Advent? How many of our Advent calendars are about chocolates and gift items rather than reminder notes to do good deeds?
Archbishop Jason Gorden challenged us, for the first week of Advent to do one Holy Moment every day, as we become conscious of God’s presence and His will and do whatever God is asking us to do in that moment.
Lord, help us to recognise your presence so that we can do Your Will. Amen.
