Thursday December 12th: In our Mother’s care

Our Lady of Guadalupe

“And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!””

Luke 1:39-47

When I read this phrase from St Luke’s Gospel, I reflected on today being the memorial of The Virgin of Guadalupe.

On December 9, 1531, she (Holy Mary) appeared to Juan Diego at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of Mexico City. During their conversations she told him ‘Don’t be afraid. Am I, who am your Mother, not here?’ And she explained to him we are all her children.

Today as we reflect on St Luke’s phrase, we are filled with joy that the favored one, who has the Lord with her – and who has all graces and blessings from the Trinity- should call herself our mother.

As we journey through Advent towards the birth of the Christ Child we feel the comfort of her protection, telling us we have nothing to fear in this world. All shall be well.

Let us thank God for giving us ‘the Favoured One’ as our mother.
