A 30-member group of the Women of Faith (WoF) Ministry from the Chaguanas Parish visited the seminarians at Mount St Benedict on Sunday, November 17.
We began our journey early and arrived at the Seminary of St John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs around 8.15 a.m. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the seminarians, who escorted us to the chapel. There, Vice Rector Msgr Cuthbert Alexander celebrated Holy Mass, with a lively and rhythmic seminarian choir leading the worship.
After Mass, we were given a tour of the Seminary, exploring the music room, gym, kitchen garden, and areas housing the homegrown chickens and some rabbits. The tour concluded in the main lunchroom, where we had the opportunity to mingle with the seminarians and get to know them better.
Msgr Alexander invited the seminarians to introduce themselves, and we learned that the group was made up of 19 seminarians: Nigeria, Aruba, India (one each), Haiti, Suriname, Cameroon (two each), Trinidad (four), and Kenya (six).
This was followed by a presentation on the history of the WoF Ministry, delivered by WoF core member Sheree Ann Bharat. Afterward, the seminarians were presented with a monetary token from the ministry.
Everyone shared their joy in gaining a deeper understanding of how the seminarians live, study, and work, and expressed a desire to continue supporting them in any way possible. Personally, I found the day to be well spent –educational, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable.
May the Almighty grant our seminarian brothers the perseverance to stay true to their calling, the resilience to overcome worldly distractions, and the spiritual guidance that our broken world so desperately needs.
