Sunday December 8th: Prepare the way for the Lord

The prophet Isaiah had prophesied, ‘Rough roads will be made smooth.’

Luke 3: 1-6

While He stood in the Jordan and was about to be baptized; John, the Baptist, was laid low by a sniper’s bullet. Blood mix with water, spirit on fire; a baptism of baptisms, the mother of all baptisms.
In the Jordan, all hell broke loose. The smooth roads promised became rough. Mortar shells and 2000-pound US-made bombs devastating homes, villages, hospitals. The cry is, ‘where is my home, where is my village?’ All cadastral evidence destroyed.
Life is broken forever; yet we know for sure, ‘all people will see salvation.’ The girl child woke up in the crowded corridor of the last hospital standing in the Gaza, asks, ‘Where is my mother?’ Her mother and entire family were killed in last night’s bombing; then she glanced down and ask without a quiver in her voice, ‘Where are my legs?’
She will live and walk with new US made prosthetic limbs to tell the tale to the new Turks who will continue to fight for the freedom to see God’s salvation that was promised. It not easy to prepare the way for the Lord.
