Friday December 6th: Come, Lord Jesus!

Advent is a season of expectation, hope and waiting. The two men, and we, are waiting with expectant hope on Jesus.

Matthew 9:27-31

Two blind men followed Jesus, crying out, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” Their blindness catches our attention immediately. They are walking in the dark, which reflects something of the Advent season since at this time of year it is usually darker for a longer period. They also represent the spiritual blindness we suffer and are groping in the dark calling out to Jesus.

Advent is a season of expectation, hope and waiting. The two men, and we, are waiting with expectant hope on Jesus.

These blind men remind us that Advent is not a passive waiting, but an active one. They didn’t simply wait in silence, complacency or bemoaned their condition; they reached out to Jesus persistently. They could not physically see Him, but they acknowledged His authority as the Messiah — the “Son of David” — who could restore them.

The two blind men show us how to live the Advent season. They called out to Jesus. This Advent, call out to Jesus. Use the simple Advent prayer: “Come Lord, Jesus”.
