Anthony Dominic Mora died November 16, 2023 at the age of 72. The following was submitted by Earl Joseph on behalf of his former work colleagues.
Dominic Mora joined British West Indian Airways (BWIA) in 1974 where he started in the Reservations Department and then moved to the Accounts Department. He worked there until 2007 when BWIA was dissolved and replaced with Caribbean Airlines.
During his tenure at BWIA, ‘Nic’ was the ultimate sportsman/team player as he would be involved in all, and any sporting and social activities promoted by the airline.
He represented BWIA locally and internationally in football, cricket, table tennis and basketball, but his passion was football. His football career spanned over 45 years as both a player and a coach with the BWIA/Aero Sunjets football team. He toured extensively with the team from Guyana in the South to Europe in the North.
Dominic played with and coached the BWIA football team in the Eddie Hart Football league, Port of Spain League, Interbank Football League, amd Industrial League winning many trophies along the way. But his crowning glory was coaching BWIA Sunjets to victories in several World Airline football tournaments.
It should be noted that Nic was extremely selfless in sharing his time by free football coaching to the many youths, both male and female, in Valencia, Arima and Arouca environs.
Having joined the Aero Services Credit Union (ASCU), he was selected to serve on the Education and Social Committees. In this new role, he excelled in organising and promoting the following events: cricket, football, basketball, all fours and table tennis departmental tournaments.
Nic also assisted with cookouts, boat rides, flea markets, along with financial and wealth management seminars for the members of ASCU.
When Nic decided to leave the Education/Social Committee, he then put his name in the proverbial ring and at an AGM, was elected as a member of the Credit Committee at ASCU, where he stayed until his passing, ensuring that the members who were interested in loans were given the best service and advice from the Committee.
Nic was also the resident Santa Claus for most children parties in the Valencia, Arima and Arouca environs including BWIA and Aero Services Credit Union.
As we remember Dominic Mora, his compassion, warmth and his unwavering commitment to helping others, set a standard that will be cherished and upheld for generations to come.
