Kathlyn Chan Wing died on October 14. She was 89. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 19 at the St Anthony’s RC Church, Petit Valley. Greer Lum Lock, president/secretary of Lay Carmelites, pays tribute.
Kathlyn Chan Wing, fondly called ‘Kay’ was a devoted mother to her sons Michael and David. She had one grandson, Gabriel for whom she cared in his earlier years.
She was professed in Carmel October 5, 1999. She was an active member throughout the years. She served as a president/treasurer for a number of years. She also served two terms as treasurer at the National Council of Lay Carmelites.
She was a devoted Catholic and used her musical talents assisting in the Cathedral/Sacred Heart choirs for many years. She was honoured to accompany the choir to Rome.
Recently, Fr Martin Sirju, Vicar General, nominated her for a long service award. The ceremony was held at the Hyatt and Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon was present.
She was the choir mistress in her parish’s, St Anthony’s, Petit Valley, traditional choir to the very end of her life.
She worked in accounts for most of her life and told us many stories. Having a ‘T’ license, on occasions she had to drive the company’s truck to assist at any given moment.
She loved gardening and used her vegetables and seasonings in her cooking. She also enjoyed going to the local market at 6 a.m. on a Saturday to get the best produce.
We, the members of Flos Carmeli hold Kay very dear in our hearts. We thank God for her wisdom and guidance in Carmel.
Whenever we sing Flos Carmeli in Latin, we smile as we remember her painstaking efforts to ensure that we got each note perfectly.
Rest in peace, Kay. We love you and miss you.
