Bishop Clyde Harvey of St George’s-in-Grenada has expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the “generous support” of all who came to the diocese’s aid during the devastation of Hurricane Beryl, July 1.
In a WhatsApp message to The Catholic News, Bishop Harvey acknowledged the support received, particularly from the Archdiocese of Port of Spain and Trinidad and Tobago, following the “fiasco” faced by Grenadians pilgrims stranded in Trinidad ahead of the 2023 World Youth Day.
Reflecting on this, he noted, “we are deeply grateful to our Trini brothers and sisters who came to our aid through different organisations.”
He shared that the diocese is now nearing the end of Operation Rescue, which helped alleviate the immediate distress caused by the storm.
“Now we begin the long-term, more difficult task of rebuilding people, relationships, and structures,” he said.
Looking ahead, Bishop Harvey explained the diocese is now embarking on a pastoral plan for the two parishes and islands most affected by the hurricane.
He estimated that it will require ten years of determined, faithful work and ministry “as God renews the face of our earth.”
