Tuesday November 19th: Meeting Jesus on the ground

“Zacchaeus, come down!”

Luke 19:1-10

Today’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus calls us to ‘come down’, meaning that we need to get in touch with reality. Many of us believe that we must ascend in order to encounter the Lord, but the Lord calls us to encounter him in our everyday reality. We encounter Jesus in people, events, emotions, thoughts, etc.

Encountering Jesus on the ground takes reflective time. He must come to our house (our hearts) so that we can see and encounter him in our real-life situations and in persons. This allows us to be transformed and model the life of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, help us to respond to your call to ‘come down’ so that we can encounter you in our real-life events and people. AMEN
