Sunday November 17th: Jesus Christ, the Eternal Word

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

Mark 13:24-32

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that heaven and earth will pass away but His words will not. Let us pause a moment to reflect upon the effect that words can have on us. Sometimes words can change our minds, our moods, our hearts and even our world for better or for worse – and they can stay with us.
Let us remember that words brought this world into being and that the Eternal Word, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, sustains the world by His words. His promise is that He will never leave us orphan, that He would be with us always, till the end of time, no matter the apocalyptic circumstances of our environment. He promised that we will always have His body given up for us and His life blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins. We can partake of this gift in memory of Him as often as we can.
These words are powerful and true – His promise, if we open up ourselves to it, can change our lives forever as God seeks to be everything to everyone.
