‘The kingdom of God is in your midst.’
Luke 17: 20-25
In the New Testament there are over 150 references to the Kingdom of God. It is referred to in a variety of ways: as a hidden treasure, coins, precious pearls, leaven, mustard seed, a net cast into the sea, a wedding feast… These are all everyday experiences to which we can relate. However, we still ain’t get it!
In today’s gospel passage Jesus is offering more clarity by pointing out that ‘it is in your midst.’ From his birth, life, death and resurrection and even post-resurrection, Jesus moved amongst his people establishing the kingdom through His power and authority, his preaching, and teachings. He has passed on his Mission to us through the apostles. Yes! The mission has a church. The ball is therefore in our court, so to speak, to make known to others this kingdom of God that is in our midst.
Open the eyes of our heart, Lord, that we may bear witness to your kingdom through our love and service to God and one another. Amen.
