Monday November 11th: Faith Enables us

Only with greater and greater faith.

Luke 17: 1-6

The Gospel progresses in three parts. In the first part Jesus teaches that all of us are struggling with areas of weakness and knowing this, we are not to lead another into their areas of struggle. The consequences for us would be grave.
In the second part, Jesus asks us to be gentle correctors and to forgive each other. If we love, we are to be involved in each other’s lives so as to assist each other to do right. Our correction of another is to lead that other to a place of repentance and a change of heart. The corollary to that is that when they repent and say sorry, we are commanded to forgive them – over and over again.
The third part is the apostles’ reaction to Jesus’ teaching, and they realise without a doubt, that to do what Jesus is asking of them, is difficult. They realise that only with greater and greater faith and reliance on God would we be enabled to achieve what Jesus is asking.

Increase our faith, O Lord!
