Eternal life is our ultimate and most important goal.
Luke 16:1-8
Today’s parable presents a paradox: Jesus praises the dishonest steward, not for his dishonesty, but for his astuteness. Facing the loss of his job, the steward acts decisively, using his position to secure his future. Jesus highlights this cleverness as a lesson for us, urging us to be just as resourceful and proactive in preparing for eternity.
While the children of this world are often shrewd in pursuing temporary goals, Jesus challenges the “children of light” to apply similar energy and focus in spiritual matters. We are called to use our wealth, time, and talents to serve others and build treasures in heaven, not just earthly security.
This parable urges us to use prudence in developing our spiritual lives. Like the steward, we must act decisively with what we have been given, using every opportunity to grow in holiness and charity. In doing so, we demonstrate true prudence, not for worldly gain, but for eternal life with God. Eternal life is our ultimate and most important goal.
