Make the kingdom of God our focus and everything else will find their rightful place.
Luke 12: 54 – 59
Jesus called the people of His time hypocrites because they were proficient in reading the signs of the weather but incapable of reading the signs of the kingdom of God. They prioritised daily concerns over the spiritual realities unfolding around them.
The same is true today. We are more immersed in current trends: social media, technological breakthroughs, news updates, political issues than attuned to the quiet, profound movements of God in our lives.
Today Jesus invites us to reorder our priorities. Make the kingdom of God our focus and everything else will find their rightful place. Another gospel passage puts it this way: “Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God’s saving justice, and all these things will be given you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself.” (Matthew 6: 33 – 34).
What reordering do we need to do so that God becomes the priority in our lives? What distractions do we need to eliminate in order to make room for God?
