Wednesday October 16th: Make the effort to love

“You load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.”

Luke 11:42-46

Love is measured by effort. Sometimes, loving God can be easy, but loving our neighbour or even our family members? Not so easy. That is what Jesus was getting at in today’s gospel. He is asking us to be honest with ourselves about the real effort we make to show our love to others in the ways that truly matter.
For instance, do we make others feel important, recognized, valued appreciated and loved? Do we make time to genuinely invest in others and to have deep, meaningful conversations and build connections?
Do we love enough to include, reach out, check in and offer assistance to the marginalized in our society like the poor, differently abled, suffering, and lonely? Today, Jesus is calling you and me to look at those around us who carry heavy burdens-the sad, the sick and the struggling and to make an effort to love. We are called to do more than just send prayers and inspirational quotes. We are called to make the effort to love.
