Tuesday October 8th: Depths of Love

‘It is Mary who has chosen the better part. ‘

Luke 10: 38-42

Have you ever been in love, deeply in love? In this passage, Jesus shows us two different depths of love and tells us which is better.
When someone we love visits us, we may fully enjoy their company without feeling that we need to offer anything but our full attention, or we may feel that we need to offer something material like refreshments.
Martha loved Jesus but she was concerned with serving something to Jesus, whereas Mary was giving him her full attention. Jesus said that she had chosen the better part for this is the way Jesus wants us to love him: with all our heart.
When he commands us to love our neighbour as ourselves, Jesus means for us to give our full attention to our neighbour, and ‘not fret about so many things.’
Lord, give me the grace to love my neighbour unconditionally, as I love myself.
