We are all equal in the sight of God
Matthew 18; 1-5, 10
As Christians we are called to practice humility. In today’s Gospel Jesus demonstrates what that means by using a child. We are all aware how innocent children can be, as they are humble at heart. The story is told of the mother who said to the child to tell the neighbor who was calling, “I am not home.” The innocent child blasted out “Mommy says she is not home.”
Humility seems to bring with it also a certain element of truth. So, for us to understand where we are with that virtue, we must be true to ourselves. Jesus is demonstrating that we must be childlike in order to enter the Kingdom. We must become like children. What is also clear from this passage is that everyone has equal opportunity, for God has no favorites once we are humble and doing His will.
This may not be easy, but when we are faced with any situation, we should call on God to guide us, asking Him to keep us humble.
