Tuesday October 1st: The Essence of a Child

‘unless you change and become like little children’

Matthew 18: 1 – 5

As a child, the unconditional love for, trust in and dependency on our parents is the essence of the childlikeness that we as Catholics should embody to have that same the unconditional love for, trust in and dependency on God.

After childbirth when they heard my voice, the recognition in their actions was mind blowing. Just as I got to know them during gestation, God knew us “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, …” (Jeremiah 1:5).

But God did not only know us, He made us to know Him, as every first communion child in my day was taught “Why did God make me? To know Him, love Him and serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.”

I pray today to maintain my child like love for God and do my best to raise my kids to know Him, love Him and serve Him.
