“Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So, who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus.”
Luke: 9: 7- 9
I have listened to what people say about presidents, preachers, singers, and also homeless persons. Some say the latter are using drugs or they are crazy. But is that true?
Well, Herod the tetrarch was not only doubtful of who Jesus was; but he was puzzled and anxious to see him. He heard a lot of all “what was going on.”
Jesus was healing the sick, and crowds were following him. People were saying that Jesus was John the Baptist, or an ancient prophet returned.
Herod was puzzled because he had John’s head cut off. This was murder. Then, was John coming back to haunt him? In order to verify Jesus’ identity, Herod was anxious to see Jesus.
Are we puzzled about who Jesus really is? “Blessed are those who have not seen, but yet believe.” Jesus is invisible to us unless we accept him into our lives.
Let us ask Jesus to open our hearts to receive him. Amen.
