Deepening our Connection with God’s Word

Celebrate St Jerome in Bible Month

September was designated the Month of the Bible, a period where the Church invites us to be more intimate with the Word of God, and use it for prayer, reflection, and application to our daily lives.

On September 30, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate), which became the foundation for many future translations. Holy scripture was originally in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic.

As Catholic Christians, we know there is great power in God’s Word, as stated in 1 Thessalonians 2:13, “And for this reason we too give thanks to God unceasingly, that, in receiving the word of God from hearing us, you received not a human word but, as it truly is, the word of God, which is now at work in you who believe”.

To help individuals, families, and communities engage more deeply with Scripture, the Archdiocesan Evangelization Commission’s team for Biblical Animation in All Pastoral Life (ABP), in collaboration with the Catholic Bible Institute, has developed the Celebrate Bible Month booklet which will be available in your parish at just $10 each. This resource presents activities for engaging with the Bible all the while sharing the transformative effects Scripture has on our daily lives.

The ABP team invites families, catechists, teachers, and you to participate in two of the activities: Bible Verse Art and Bible Character Costume Day, which are creative ways to bring the Scriptures to life.

We will be hosting a Bible Art Gallery where art pieces from the Bible Verse Art and Bible Character Costume Day activities would be displayed and celebrated on January 3 to 5, 2025. We invite all and sundry to join us in the celebration of the Word and share your creative pieces. Please contact us at abptt23@gmail.com for more information.

The Church is commissioned to evangelise in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and bring everyone into a deeper understanding of the power of His love and grace.

As we celebrate the Feast of St Jerome, let us fully engage the activities of Bible Verse Art and Bible Character Costume Day, which are beautiful ways of dialoguing with Scripture and experiencing spiritual revitalisation through God’s Word.
