Tuesday September 17th: Bearing Grief

“God has come to help his people”

Luke 7:11-17

Who among us has not known grief? It takes a lot of courage to bear grief. Sometimes we lose people and things that are very valuable to us that simply cannot be replaced. In those moments, processing the cost of the loss can seem overwhelming, especially if we must restart from scratch.
We each bear grief differently. We may not even know how grief may be affecting someone as they may appear to be fine on the surface. That is why, as Christians, what we say to others who are grieving is important, as we can easily rub people the wrong way if our words and actions are insensitive. This often results in them breaking community and turning away.
Today’s gospel calls us to be that instrument that shows that God has come to help his people. May our words bring comfort to those who are grieving, and may we show compassion and build community with those who are grieving.
Prayer: Jesus, heal my grief and use me to heal others too.
