Monday September 9th: Love of neighbour

‘Is it against the law on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil? ‘

Luke 6:6-11

Jesus, on several occasions in the scriptures, confronts the Pharisees on the sabbath and shows them that man is more important than the sabbath. Today, Jesus heals the man with the withered hand on the sabbath. The Pharisees said that such action was forbidden, and Jesus challenged them with: ‘Is it against the law on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil?’
Many good people have relatives at home and need someone to be with them all the time. They may have to stay with the sick person and so miss their Sunday observance. Some have risked their lives to save others. To God, loving your neighbour is paramount in observing his commandments.
Lord, help me remember that showing my love for you by helping my neighbour is the best thing I can do to guarantee my salvation.
