One can never overestimate the value of silence and solitude.
Luke 4: 38 – 44
I am always struck by how many practical things the life of Jesus teaches us.
Jesus cured Simon’s mother-in-law without drama.
The practical lesson for me is that one should do the necessary without fanfare or looking for praise.
Simon’s mother-in-law taught us that when we are healed by Jesus, it is our duty to serve others.
Jesus always went out to lonely places to find solitude. We can go on retreats or sit before the Blessed Sacrament in an effort to imitate our Lord. One can never overestimate the value of silence and solitude.
Jesus also teaches us how to be focused. His job was to preach the good news. He did his job, no matter what anyone said.
My prayer is to always get the practical as well as the spiritual message from each day’s gospel.
